We are as concerned as you are to gauge the effectiveness of our grants through appropriate monitoring and evaluation. As a local funder we are keen to keep in regular contact with our grant holders but we also ask for our two page Evaluation Form to be completed and sent back to us within a year of the grant being received.
It can be challenging to report on the immediate outcomes of personal development work but we believe it important for project leaders to focus on what has been achieved rather than just what activities took place. Indicators of change can be useful in articulating the difference a programme has made for young people in the short term. We also appreciate reading personal accounts (case studies) from beneficiaries to bring the project’s achievements to life.
We would encourage all applicants for multi-year funding to consider making research and evaluation an integral part of their project.
