The 8 Year Model
Following a strategic review process conducted in 2003, Trustees have adopted the following approach to revenue funding for those projects/organisations they believe require extended investment in order to become established. Appeals for capital or bursary funding are considered separately.
| Phase | Year | Focus | Objective |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | < 0 | Research | Define area of need and then seek organisations to address it. |
| 2 | 1-3 | Core funding | Provide running costs (some or all) and actively support with staff time to ensure the project's early success. |
| 3 | 4-6 | Project funding | Foster a more strategic approach to funding and target project development. |
| 4 | 7-8 | Scale down funding | Withdraw funding over an agreed time period and attract other funders (especially statutory). |
| 5 | 8+ | Cease funding | Remain a background advocate for the project, but move on.* |
* the only caveat to this cessation of funding is that a new or satellite project, initiated by the original beneficiary, can be considered as a Phase 2 project.
